Appreciate your concise answer. I think I will reinstall Messenger and then re-read how to turn it off. I thought I was losing my mind with it. I thought for a time that it was ghost in the machine - I just couldn't stop the darn wait/hourglass popping up every 2 minutes. Anyway, it's done.
By the way, I have encountered another tricky little issue. If you get the chance could you read my question in Help and Support from the 12th: "Shortcut Problem Misunderstood . . ." Maybe you have an answer for this one. Thanks again.
