file transfers

While I can type messages and receive messages, file
transfers always fail. I did have this working once but
have since messed around with Norton and the settings on
my hub. I can't remember what I changed since (more than
a year ago) and messenger no longer works.

Messenger says it is connected directly (no firewall)
Norton Firewall is set to permit Messenger. I have even
tried with norton disabled.

I have a 3com ethernet gateway with what I think is the
latest firmware.

XP firewall is off and remote assistance on.

What do I try?
