I have the same problem as Carl. I get exactly the same
error message. I followed your instructions below and get
the following (alternating) errors
Product: Windows Messenger 5.0 -- The installer has
encountered an unexpected error installing this package.
This may indicate a problem with this package. The error
code is 2761. The arguments are: , ,
Product: Windows Messenger 5.0 -- Error 1935. An error
occured during the installation of assembly component

2147024864. assembly interface: IAssemblyCacheItem,
