Windows Messenger 5.0 repair fails

I installed Windows Messenger to try to fix a problem I was having with v4.7. Now when I try to view a fax in a Sharepoint Fax directory or try to copy and paste into MS Word 2003, the intaller for Windows Messenger v5.0 loads, fails to install and reverts. The current veriosn of messenger is 5.0 and when I close it and choose repair from the install.exe a get an error "An error occured during the installation of assembly component {874793fc-5f43-496a-8fe7-18c4db9b143d} HRESULT: -2147024864"
