Blue Screen - What to do?

I've recently been getting the blue screen about once per day. When
the system is rebooted I get a message that it recovered from a very
serious error (or some such message).
I don't know what's causing this or what to do to eliminate the
problem. It mentions new hardware, but nothing's been added for a
longtime so doubt that's the cause.
I'm running WindowsXP Sp 3 on a Dell box.
Any help/suggestions appreciated as I'm concerned the computer will
just keel over & die.
Thanks!
Regards,
AB
