Unable to install file and printer sharing

Running XP SP3 and all updates on Thinkpad X200
While trying to get my laptop to share files on the home network I
discovered that I am unable to install File and Network sharing because the
installation files are apparently missing or inaccessable. When I go to
Network Connection and select Properties I find that the File and Printer
sharing checkbox is blank. I check it and nothing happens and if I reboot
the box is once again unchecked. Then I try to install it by clicking
Install then clicking Service but File and printer sharing is not
displayed...the only thing available to select is Service Advertising
Protocol.
Somewhere along the line the installation files for the File and Printer
sharing service somehow dissappeared from my laptop. Where can I find the
files so that I can install them using the Have Disk option. I assume they
are on the XP installation CD but I don't know what/where I should be
looking for them.
I can find lots of articles about File and Printer Sharing problems but none
that address this particular problem. Can someone please help...I would
appreciate it very much...I'd sure hate to have to reinstall everything from
scratch.
thanks
