I am wondering if anyone has an explanation. My Windows Explorer
closes down from time to time. Occasionally nothing much happens
except I get asked to send a message to Microsoft - and that is a
fat lot of good now that they have Windows 7 up and running.

I seem to remember that I was already with MS even before 95 and
have spent money every time there was an update - soon as the
update was on there was nothing in the way of assistance from MS
forcing you to go for the new one. I understand it as that is a
good selling trick as long as people are understanding enough to
buy the new version.

I am even a little suspicious that one of the latest updates on
SP3 might have been the couse or it. My check on the net showed
that there was some 3.5 million mentions about that and everybody
was troubled - I can of course go back to September or even
earlier and stay there ignoring all updates from then onward and
that might be the only cure - anyone solved the problem, please

It happens to me every once in a while, too. Since the principal
purpose of Explorer is to display and manipulate directories and files,
it is possible that you might have a corrupted directory somewhere on
your drive that throws Explorer for a loop. If you haven't done it
lately, try running a 'checkdsk /f' on your hard drive to make sure
your directories are in good shape. I do it as regular maintenance and
it certainly couldn't hurt.
