Sorry Daave, I forgot to address your AV question.
It is running AVG (free version). Sorry about the syntax confusion, I meant
to say I tried the install with AV disabled, not that I tried to disable and
wasn't able to. I actually uninstalled it long enough to get the SP3 install
done, then reinstalled AVG.

Hi, I have XP Home, and have SP2 installed, but now SP3 is failing,
it is
returning an error code of 0x80070005. I have posted the svcpack log
below,
if anyone can offer any suggestions as to what is happening I'd be
appreciative. I have tried to disable A/V, uninstalles Spybot and
Adaware,
etc, butit stil fails every time.

Make and model of PC, please. (Certain HPs have problems. Fortuantely,
there is a fix.)
Which AV program do you run?
You say that you "tried to disable A/V," which implies that you were
unable to do so. What method did you use to disable the program?
I prefer to configure a clean boot (which should have the effect of
temporarily disabling *all* third-party programs) before I attempt an
upgrade to SP3:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353
(Others have reported success booting into Safe Mode and installing SP3
from there.)
And I prefer to use an SP3 CD which I burned from an .iso file that I
downloaded from Microsoft:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2fcde6ce-b5fb-4488-8c50-fe22559d164e&displaylang=en
An alternative to an SP3 CD is the .exe file, which can be found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloadS/details.aspx?familyid=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en
Last bit of wisdom:
Make sure you roll back to IE6 before you upgrade to SP3. *Then* (after
the upgrade is successful and you rebooted twice, making sure to undo
your clean boot) you may upgrade to either IE7 or IE8. (The same advice
applies to WMP; you don't want to upgrade to SP3 if you have WMP11!)
