ascertain a xp cd
and select option
"repair".

the recovery console
will initiate and you
will be able to get to
a disk prompt.

type in and run the
commands>:

chkdsk /r
fixboot
fixmbr

then "exit", remove cd
and retry your system.

incidentally, the fixboot
will provide warning
messages.

but proceed to engage
the fix for the master
boot record.

Blue Screen Error Codes:  UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
Stop:  0x000000ED (0x81EE4D98, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
What is this telling me? I can get past the splash screen, I've tried the
advance settings (by pressing F8) but so far still cannot get past the splash.

Wrong.

Did you have a power failure?

If yo have no bootable XP CD, all of the recommended actions can be
performed from a bootable XP Recovery Console CD that you can make.

Download the bootable Recovery Console ISO called:

xp_rec_con.iso

from here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig

Use this free and easy program to create your bootable CD:

http://www.imgburn.com/

Boot on that CD and run the commands db specified.

I would start first with just the chkdsk /r and that may fix you right
up.

Try to boot.

If no good, boot on the CD again, try chkdsk /r and fixboot.

If no good, boot on the CD again, try chkdsk /r, fixboot and fixmbr.
