All this happened after you used a registry cleaner ?

not trying to steal this thread... but i believe my problem is similar,
perhaps a bit more complicated (could be hardware or power supply
problems) seems like i have tried everything...my pc is somewhat older
but was running fine until a few weeks ago. now it "crashes when i try
to watch Hulu or when i listen to myspace music player. Could flash
player 10 be a problem. this is about the only time it does it. But it
will just go blank. All of the power lights stay on in the tower but i
have a blank screen and the monitor light goes to the yellow standby. I
must then flip the main power switch on back of the computer off, back
on, and then restart with power switch in front, At this point I have to
choose the second partition I luckily/accidentally created on a
reinstall of windowsXP SP2. I say luckily because the first and formerly
only partition i was using goes to a blue screen telling me to check my
hard drive for viruses, corruptions, ect. I have done all of that.
(should probably get rid of that partition but not sure how
to...lol...still pretty much a newbie)
So now i have windows running and all seems well. Avast! antivirus
(Updated regularly) loads as does Belkin wireless Internet device and
those are in my little startup tray running smoothly in the background,
it seems. I get on Internet explorer (was using firefox but windows
updates from Microsoft were needed after reacativating and i had to go
back to Internet Explorer, so i d/l that and uninstalled firefox.-ps i
was using firefox when this crashing started to happen) If i go to
myspace and other similar it's fine i can use some apps with no problem
but the music player will cause the blank screen/ locked up thing and
then i have to power down and repeat the cycle...If i try to watch a
show on Hulu same thing happens. Has anyone else had similar problem and
if so how is it corrected. not sure if i should try to update my
BIOS(not even sure i could figure out how) but i have updated most of
the drivers, i switched the RAM to another slot after cleaning it, did
all windows updates (now have service pack 3), tried to run spybot
search and destroy but right at end of process, before results, i got
the black screen... i am going to try to run it again today. Could the
Spybot and the Avast antivirus be working against each other and causing
a problem? I dusted computer out pretty decently and cleaned the fans of
dust. Was using a oscilating fan on the tower with the sides off (and
that's with the cpu fan and exhaust fan running, plus electrical box has
fan, too) and fan pointing right at cpu and motherboard so i don't think
it's overheating. here is my setup: AMDathlon1.1ghz processor,
256 SDR RAM in one slot,
WindowsXP SP3,
Samsung SV3002H harddrive
Sony CD-RW CRX215E1,
i believe the motherboard is VIA,
tell me if you need more info... The sony cd burner reminds me that,
also, everytime i try to burn a disc (usually using windows media
player) i get the crash and the black screen and have to restart. this
happens mostly before the file pending process of burning is even
finished so luckily i'm not wasting blank discs everytime, but i would
love to be able to go back to burning music b/c i use sonar1.0(cakewalk)
to make music but now i can't put it on disc. In a state of madness i
tried to switch the hard drive this is happening to out of the tower i
described here into another tower (Compaq) with a different motherboard
and i thought it was going to work when i was reinstalling windows but
in the end i only got a blank screen with the cursor at top right
flashing and nothing else so i put it all back...lol.(and that's when i
reinstalled yet again and created that fist messed up blue screen
partition that i can no longer use) What exactly do you have to do to
change a hard drive? I figured the motherboard in the other tower was
not compatible or whatever and that's why it wouldn't work. the other
computer runs very smoothe but the problem is the hard drive is wayyyyyy
too small for doing anything more than surfing the net. I may have to go
to it though and forget burning cd's and other projects with the
Athlon1.1..... PLEASE HELP? and thanks for reading this.
