I find nothing specific to that application and error message; however,
there are around 500 hits on the error message using Google and if push
comes to shove, maybe you can review some of them and see if you find any
help:

I'm trying to install MS VC Pro ver 6.x (after the linker refused to run

this setup for 3 yrs now) . I first tried replacing the DLL the linker
could not find.
But then the Linker still would not run (yes it was on the IDE paths). So

uninstalled MS VC Pro ver 6.x , rebooted and then tried to install it
again. At the
very first of the install I get a msg box saying,
"Setup has encountered and error and cannot continue" setup then exits.

My XP MediaEdition updates automatically.

I have scanned (with Bit Defender) and gotten a clean slate twice.

What is the application causing a problem, what is the exact error
message, does your system have all SPs and updates, and do you regularly
scan for viruses, Trojans and malware?

I cannot install app, setup exits with error and when I track
down the error at Microsoft I get this,
"corrupt 16-bit subsystem" . Can this be fixed or am I going
