A dynamic bootable drive was taken out of a working Windows 2000 computer
and put as a secondary in an XP system where it was originally seen as
Foreign media. Import data was performed, which allowed to see all the
data on the drive and back it up. When this drive was put back into the
original box, the box would not boot anymore. The boot process starts
normally with the Windows splash screen , but ends with BSOD STOP Error
0x7B Inaccessible Boot Device.
Any ideas on what happened and how this can be fixed will be appreciated.
Thanks.

I do not know if this is part of the Dynamic disk or not. I do recall
info stating that NTFS was slightly modified in XP. I was told that
whenever a XP would see an older 2000 NTFS drive, XP was automatically
"updating" the NTFS system so that it works in XP. I am not sure if
this is true or if it can be undone.
The drive is actually FAT, not NTFS.

FAT or FAT32?
When the boot drive was put in the other machine as a slave drive, were
any jumpers or switches changed?

FAT32. Yes, the jumper was moved to slave, but it was moved back to CS
afterwards. Tried master position too. It's definitely not a jumper
problem. I am coming to the conclusion that importing the drive to XP has
changed something on it.
Hi again,
In your first message, you said: "Import data was performed, which allowed
to see all the data on the drive and back it up." In your 2nd message, you
said: "I was called in at the point when XP couldn't see the data on the
drive." If I'm understanding this right, it was after you were called in
that "import data was performed", so if you are sure that you did not do
anything to change the data on the drive, then something someone else did
affected a change. Have you ruled out malware on both machines? Without
knowing what was done, I cannot advise anything except verify that the data
that was copied is intact, and reformat the question drive and reinstall
windows, and all that that involves, and transfer the data back. There may
be a way to repair the boot info on the drive, but that is beyond my
knowledge. When you get the Windows splash screen, can you F8 and get a menu
to try safe mode, or other boot options? Maybe one of these links will be of
some help:
STOP 0x0000007B Blue Screen Errors

The most popular Blue Screen of Death error in Windows is the STOP
0x0000007B error, sometimes called the 0x7b error or the "INACCESSIBLE BOOT
DEVICE" BSOD. This BSOD (which is actually the common name for a STOP Error)
could mean that there's a serious hardware problem with a hard drive
controller, a driver issue, or even a boot sector virus.

Maybe someone in the win.2000 newsgroup can assist:
