Re: Updating programs on HD in a 2.5 IDE HD to USB Enclosuer Case.

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Idont understand, if you replaced your old hd with a new one and installed
winxp, updated winxp and installed your apps, what is it that requires you
to swap the hd to update?
And where does the encolsure figure in all this?
Perhaps what you are saying is that you installed your new hd to the
enclosure, then installed winxp on the enclosure hd and your apps.
I'm afraid thats not the way to do it. You clone your origonal drive to the
enclosure hd, immediately shutdown the sys.
Then replace your laptop drive with that new drive and reboot
The enclosure drive can only really be used to store data, and whilst you
can install apps to the enclosure drive that is not reccommended as the
installation will still wright files & registry settings to the win drive

I hope Im in the right group. I installed a new harddrive in my laptop an
loaded XP an all the programs I had on the old one onto the new one. WOW
first time at doing anything like that. The old HD is one that was in my
laptop when I bought it along with the security programs I loaded on it.
It
is getting quite stressful to take out the new HD an put the old one in to
update all the programs two times a week. Is there a way to do this
updating
when it is pluged into the USB Port? The old HD has all the same security
and XP programs that the new one does. Im just afraid that taking out an
putting back the HDs are going to cause a problem. Thanks for your time an
trouble an have a great an safe weekend an 4TH.
