I know you have looked here but the Errore code may help.
Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Hope this helps.

Canon multifunction printer, the MX-700. When I got to the end
of the CD software
installation it instructed me to connect the USB cable and turn
the printer
on. It then said that it was installing the driver and then it
gave an error saying that the driver had not installed correctly
and may not work.
The printer function does work just fine but the scanner doesn't.
It gives
an error saying that it is unable to communicate with the scanner.
1 - The Canon folks say they don't use an installation log file
so they don't know what might be wrong.
2 - The Application and the System event files didn't log an
error or warning when the driver attempted to install nor do
either of them log an error when I attempt to scan and get the
"cannot communicate" error. 3 - When I look at the Windows Image
Acquisition (WIA) service it is started
and running.
4 - When I look in Device Manager I see the Canon device under
Imaging Devices and it has the yellow warning icon next to it.
When I double click
on it, it says that it is unable to load the driver and that the
driver might be corrupt or missing (code 39).
I installed it on my laptop, running the same OS, and it
installed just fine
and the scanner starts the way its supposed to.
Does anyone have any ideas where additional error info might be
found that
might help me get a little better understanding of what the error
is installing the driver?
Thanks in advance,
Howard
Pull out the power plug and replace while "in use" mode.
Yep. "Ready to go" mode. :-)
Hello,
I have the same problem as Howard describes, including the same
driver error message. While running XP Media Centre with Brother
MFC-885CW (multifunction wireless fax/scanner/printer) the scanner
function ceased to operate recently and showed the yellow exclamation
point alongside the scanner driver in Device Manager. I have
verified there is no problem with the Brother machine. I have also
attempted to install an Epson Perfection 1250 scanner (USB
connection) to see if that would work and get the same driver error
message.
Sandy58's suggestion to unplug the scanner(s) and plug them in again
had no effect. Several attempts at 'clean' installs of these drivers
also had no effect. All drivers are updated. This issue seems to
have shown up just after attempting install of a Logitech Ultra Web
Cam which turned out to be faulty.
Other suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.
