Hello everyone, I'm hoping maybe someone here may be able to help me
resolve my issue. I'm getting the above message as I try and open
folders with video in them. It may be affecting other folders /
components but I've just not discovered them yet. I'm running XP Pro &
the Error (I'm not sure if you guys need the entire report, its kinds
huge) Signature is:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.5512 ModName: quartz.dll
ModVer: 6.5.2600.5731 Offset: 0007cd8b

Please tell me if you need anymore info, I've already tried "Run"
SFC.EXE /SCANNOW & let the disk rebuild. I then re-updated the pack & am
now back to square one :s

Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards, Flappers.

(Flappers later adds...)
I updated to IE 8 this morning & I'm running XP Pro service pack 3. And
I'm sorry, I'll make the time to read thoroughly your rules in future,
was a long day :/

Can you please help me find this browser add-on ? I'm using FireFox
3.0.10 as my main Browser with IE 8 sat in the background, rarely being
used except for the odd Microsoft d-load.

(and...)
OK, now I'm officially very confused, feel a bit like I've walked into a
thorn bush.

Whom am I to trust with regard to d-loading shell tools etc, and at
what point did my addy change to <Flappers.3s80bb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> ?

I'm simply a user who spent hours looking for a fix & found you guys,
hoping for a fix I posted. I'm not at all sure what I'm to do or who's
advice to follow.

Flappers:
As you have probably discovered through a Google search of the type of
problem you're encountering, there are a myriad of reasons - both software
& hardware related - that can account for this problem. Similarly a wide
variety of suggested "fixes". There's generally no easy diagnosis nor
simple fix in most cases. It's even possible that in the final analysis
you'll have no other practical recourse but to fresh-install the XP OS.

But before getting to that point, should it arrive, let me suggest the
following...

1. First of all, if it's possible to currently access any file that's
important to you, i.e., you could not tolerate its loss, make a copy of
the file to some removable media. I realize this may not be possible under
the present circumstances, but if you can do so then do so.

I would also suggest you first clone or disk-image the contents of your
present HDD but I have the uneasy feeling you do not work with a
disk-cloning or disk-imaging backup program.

2. You've indicated you've run the sfc /scannow command without success,
right? Have you tried running the chkdsk /r command? If not, do so.

3. Hopefully you have an XP OS installation CD that's either a non-branded
OEM or a retail version, so that you'll be able to run a Repair install of
the OS. Are you at all familiar with that process?

Anyway, if you're so inclined, respond to the above and if you want we can
go on from there.
Anna

Flappers...
(I'm omitting your latest post).

I realize this has been quite a frustrating experience for you as to the
various responses you've rec'd re the query you raised as well as the other
strange (I don't know what else to call them!) posts in connection with this
thread. As best you can, try to focus on your problem and simply disregard
(again, as best you can) the non-relevant posts.

Assuming you undertook the Google search, it was recommended by "Bill in
Co.". And rightly so. I suppose you found nothing in those various links
that could help you overcome your problem, right?

In my response to your query I suggested an initial course of action,
specifically running the chkdsk /r command. Did you do so?

In your initial post you stated that you "re-updated the pack". Could you
explain this? Do you mean you re:installed the XP OS?

I previously asked you about the type (if any) of the XP OS installation CD
you have. This, of course, was in connection with the possibility of running
a Repair install of the OS and (hopefully) returning your system to a
functional state. Would you respond to my query?
Anna
