Ken again. Jose, I uninstalled my VLC media player and that seemed to 'solve' the problem. Now, using my prefered SeaMonkey browser, I can play certain video files - Windows Media Player takes over and plays them. But if you could tell me how, rather than fully uninstall the VLC player, I could simply set it so that it didn't interfere with Windows Media Player, that would suit me better! (My experiments that way so far, e.g., not turning on a VLC option to load a Mozilla plugin, haven't worked.)
Hoping. Thanks.

Are you using the VLC plugin to view video files?
If you disable the VLC plugin, does that help (most restart FF)
I HAVE the VLC player, Jose, and I THINK I have its plugins, but by default I think my computer plays visual files on my IrfanView plugin or my Nero ShowTime player or my Quick Time player or ...
How do I disable the VLC plugin, please? I looked but couldn't see any reference to plugins. (Also, while doing this, I was advised by a VLC announcement to download its latest version. I have now done this and uninstalled the old version, but haven't yet installed the new one.)
One other question. You say: '(most restart FF)'. I'm not sure what is meant here. I guess that 'most' should be 'must' but what is 'FF', please?
