with your cmos/bios
settings.

double check them
and the home site
for your motherboard
to ensure that the bios
is up to date as well.

I have a somewhat similar problem and was hoping for some help. I have a
Dell Dimension 8250 running WinXP Pro w/ SP3. The system has 512 MB RDRAM.
Lately what's been happening is that whenever I plugin a usb thumbdrive or a
ub hub into the computer, either the computer won't recognize it or the
computer will slow down dramatically. The CPU will be pegged at 99 % and
the computer will just drag in doing the most ordinary of tasks, such as
switching windows. In Device Manager, the USB hub/controller have yellow
exclamation marks ... I have tried multiple times uninstalling the problem
usb controllers and rebooting w/o any resolution. The problem occurs no
matter which USB port I'm using on the computer. Here's the USB info from
my computer:
USB Controller VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Companion Controller
USB Controller VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Companion Controller
USB Controller VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller

Any help would be much appreciated. If needed I can post more detailed
description of my h/w.
