Miriam, is it possible to make a post without deleting all the

There are at least two possible explanations you are having problems
with Flash:
1. There is some sort of anti-malware program running in the
background
that is interfering. If so, there should be a setting that will allow
Flash to run.
2. You are using the wrong kind of account. You need to use an
administrative account.
Please answer the following:
1. In Control Panel, select User Accounts. What does it say under your
account? (Computer Administrator or Limited?)
2. Identify all your security programs (e.g., anti-malware).
3. Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. Do you see Adobe
Flash
Player listed?
Be sure to include a detailed desscription of everything you've done
when you attempted to install Flash. Include the Web page you did it
from, what you clicked on, what you saw happen. Post back any messages
you have received *verbatim*.
Hi Daave,
To anwser your quesions: 1. I am the system administrator
2. My security programs consist of: PCtools Antivirus, PCtools
Threatfire, PCtools Firewall Plus in addition to the Windows XP's own
firewall.
3. When add or remove programs is opened, I do not see Adone Flash
player present.
What I have tried so far:
1. To download Flash from the adobe page:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
It doesn't seen to do much at first, but then my firewall detects
activity and I grant permission to all Adobe activity. Then the message
comes up:
Adobe Flash Player Active X Setup:
Failed to install, for troubleshouting tips, please see
www.adobe.com/go/tn_19166
2. I went to this Adobe page where it said to uninstall al previous
versions. so I ran that although no older version would prob be present
from this page:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=1
Windows: uninstall_flash_player.exe (205 KB) (updated 2/24/08)
3. I rebooted
4. I opened the same troubleshooting page as before (tn_19166) to see
what to do next. I tried downloading Flash again, with the same result.
I ran the uninstall tool again and rebooted.
5. I checked my IE settings for Active X and Java, but they already
where like it was advised on that page.
6. The next tip on the troubleshouting page, is that there might be a
problem in the registery: -A damaged Windows system registry or
incorrect permissions in the registry may prevent Flash Player from
installing or registering correctly.
Symptoms of a damaged registry or incorrect permissions may include:
Error during Flash Player installation:
'Failed to install. For Troubleshooting please see:
http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_19166' -
So I downloaded SubInACL from Microsoft to fix permission issues that
prevent the Flash Player installation from this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e8ba3e56-d8fe-4a91-93cf-ed6985e3927b&displaylang=en
As advised on the Adobe troubleshouting page:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=fb1634cb&sliceId=2
7. SubInACL.exe was saved to the folder C:\Program Files\Windows
Resource Kits\Tools\ and I installed it.
8. Then I downloaded the reset_fp10.zip file and unzipped it to the
same folder. I double clicked reset_fp10.cmd and the command prompt
window opened. It finished in a few seconds, during which i did nothing
and I then pressed a key to exit it.
9. I tried once more to install flash, the same error occured after
which I ran the uninst tool again and rebooted again.
10. After this I downloaded PCtools regestry mechanic, installed it and
ran it. It found around 475 problems, but woul only fix 6 in this free
version.
11. Tried to install it again, same rsults, same actions. No I ran out
of ideas.
