Thanks Jerry
Crucial sees 1GB ram (which is cool) but I am still confused as to why XP
reports only 448MB in My Computer/properties and task manager (but reports
1GB in System tools/system info) and whether or not this is important.

Hi Jean,
Which version of XP are you running? Windows XP Professional X64
Edition
or another version? What Service Pack Level? Notebook or Desktop
Computer?
Matching Memory Sticks or different brands of Memory Sticks.

Hi
Fairly new at this so please be "kind"
Installed an extra 512 RAM so have 1GB. System tools/system info
reports
1GB
but "My Computer" properties reports 448 MB as does "task manager" Does
this
mean that XP is only seeing the 448 and how do I fix this (does it ned
to
be
fixed?). The machine sems to boot faster and some memory hungry
programmes
seem to work better
Your thoughts will be appreciated
