Thank you for your response! I know you are supplying me with something
very valuable to my question, but I have to ask for your forgiveness in not
understanding what it is, as it is like a foreign language to me!

Could you expand for me?, (as I'm not very computer-literate as of yet). I

Hello!

I was wondering if there was a way of "stopping" the automatic restart of my
computer each time Windows XP gets an automatic update. I am referring to
the process that happens in the right side of the task bar, that says that
Windows has a new update, and the fact that it will later give you a message,
saying that it is going to restart the computer for you, if you do not
postpone it (for the 10 minutes that it allows each time). If you happen to
not be at the computer at the time of the message, it will go ahead and
restart your computer, regardless of what documents are open or unsaved.

Is there any way of telling my system that it *doesn't* have permission to
restart the computer until I am ready for that? In other words, I am fine
with getting the automatic updates, but I'm wondering if there's any way to
tell the system not to restart itself on its own when it gets those updates,
and to allow *me* to decide when the computer can be restarted.

Is there a "check-box" to check off somewhere, or something of that nature,
in some type of control panel for the Windows XP updates on my computer?

Or might there be something else?
