Hello Gerry (& everyone who's reading this & who may be of any help)
Thank you for your swift reply.
Answers to your questions:
1. It occurs when windows is running. However, I have problems during the
boot process as well (like a black screen or that the laptop shuts itself
down after a couple seconds).
The problem occurs randomly, yesterday it happened 3 times.
2. The problem's occuring since the day before yesterday. I have installed
service pack 3 about 1-2 weeks ago & i have refreshed my virus protection
(symantec). Otherwise I don't recall having installed mayor things.
3. There are no yellow question marks in the device manager
4. Next time the blue screen appears, i will note the rest of the test (i
thought the code was what really matters...)
Here's what I have done so far:
1. I have updated my BIOS. My laptop has not crashed since then. However, I
am not 100% certain that it will not let me down again. --> May there be
driver problems as well? What driver may be responsible?
2. I have checked the device manager (see above for results).
3. I have run "sigverif.exe". Here are the drivers that are listed as
unsigned:
- btkrnl.sys (sounds like kernel, may this be the problem?)
- ad2kgelp.ini
- ad2kregp.dll
- ad2kuigp.dll
- adpdf6.ppd
- kyofonts2.dll
- kyres.dll
- lp3035.gdp
Thank you for your kind support and great hints!

STOP: 0x0000008E (0x0000005, 0X805446DC, 0XB84B982C, 0X00000000)
What appears on the line below the one above?
Background information on Stop Error message 0x8E
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms794023.aspx
0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
A kernel mode program generated an exception which the error handler
didn't catch. These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues
(which sometimes means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade).
Source: http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm
Does the error occur during the boot process or after? How frequently is
it occuring?
How long has the problem been occurring? What programmes and hardware
did you add immediately before the problem started?
Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?
Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What
drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.

Hope this helps.

My Laptop (Compaq nx8220) keeps crashing.
The screen turns blue and the error message
STOP: 0X0000008E (0Xc0000005, 0X805446DC, 0XB84B982C, 0X00000000)
appears.
Does anybody have a clue about what might be wrong with my computer?
And is there a (hopefully rather easy) way to fix the problem?
Thanks for your kind supperot!
Alex
