no keyboard and mouse drivers - how do i install them?

got a really bizarre problem here...

XP Pro PC... booted the other day and notice that XP didn't recognise
the mouse as it booted... as I koved the mouse the cursor didn't
move.

Once XP has booted I then get the add hardware wizard screen pop up
saying new hardware is detected - usb human interface device, and I
need to indstall the drivers for it.

I then noticed that the keyboard wasn;t reponding either (ie windows
start key doesn;t elicit any response).

Rebooted machine (3 pin reset... urgh! no other way to shut it
down). f8 and up and own arrows work fine => PC is Ok with keyboard,.
but not windows ... which if it had "lost" its drivers makes some
sense (I suppose!).

Now - aside from wondering how the hell this has happened - how can I
follow through the hardware driver add stuff when I have neither a
mouse nor a keyboard with which to interface with windows?

The PC has only usb connections (no PS2 or even srial available), I've
tried diffrent USB ports as well. Safe mose is even "worse" cos I am
propted to select ebtween administrator and the user account and I
don;t have any way to select one of them!

system wont seemingly boot into safe mode command line...

any ideas people?

cheers and TIA

ian
