XP runs and prints very slow


I have a two year old dell Pc running XP with 3 gigs of ram and 200 gigs
of free hd. The system runs very slow and printing to an HP 1300 laser
attached by USB cable takes a minute before anything happens. I have
performed the following:

1. Defraged the hd.
2. Run Spybit, Adaware & Norton's Ant virus (all run clean)
3. Run Nortons system works (1 touch tune-up)
4. Cleared the temp and %temp% folders
5. Cleared IE cache

None of this has helped the system performance. There are no popups.

Any suggestions?
