What can I do to transfer a large file by broadband connection from
a remote site to my compuyer?
The supplier is willing and cooperative, but cannot do systems
programming. The file, a large pdf, contains copyrighted material
that he would noy want to post in a 3rd party site.
The file is too large (say about 40-50 MB) to attach to an email,
and too large to break up, even if I knew how.
FTP wouldn't work, as the directories and permissions are not set
up on his site.
I have jusy a personal computer, with no URL and dynamic IP
addressing. He nx\as a real web site.
Is there a way of using sharing that would help? I am on a home
local network and have noticed that there seems to be some
provision for adding a remote web site. But I don't umderstand how
that works.
Best would be for me to email him, and get a reply containing a
download link to yhe file and not have to mess with directories,
permissions, and a login.
Is there a way he can do that w/o systems programming?
Finally, is there a reliable and secure 3rd party solution?
Is this a one-time thing, or will it repeat?
If it will repeat - and you are the customer/the one receiving the file(s) -
why are *you* figuring out how to get the files?
Sounds a little shady/unreliable/not worth the time to me.
