The orginal computer came with XP Home Edition, and Corel products were the
OEM installed. I am not familier with Corel. Later that year, XP Pro was
availabe through the campus bookstore. You had to be a student to pay $99
for the set. I wanted what I was familier with, Microsoft. I paid the $99 &
recieved 5 disks enclosed in plastic with the Microsoft seal to prevent
tampering. It is registered to me, and has worked fine until now.. But,
that was my fault. The dog chewed part of the key off, and I got it, but
recorded it wrong. Now I have the correct key, and all is working well
again. The disks are fine, and the dog can not get to the disks any longer.
Last time I requested help, I was flamed. I found, and read the
instructions for newsgroup ettiqete. I was not flamed this time so I must
have done better. But, with all the questions I see that I could have done
better still. Thanks for helping me.

My main computer is a Sony Vaio with a Pentium 4 processor and 512Purchase and install legitmately licensed software and their

is installed. I, also, installed MS XP Pro, version 2002 but it
is not showing in the system properties window. There is also MS
Word, Excel, Access, and Powerpoint that came with the Pro
version (the Home Edition came with Corel products). I recently
acquired a Dell computer with the Intell Pentium III processor,
and 512 MB of ram. I install MS XP Pro, version 2002, with
service pack 3, from the same disks that I installed on my other
computer. And here is the problem. I can not install the
Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Powerpoint onto the newly
acquired, though about 1 year older, Dell computer. I put the
disk in the CD drive and it asks for the product key, but it does
not accept the key. I tried the same key 3 or 4 times, verifying
it is correct each time, just in case. Four other disk came as a
set, so I tried those keys as well, just in case I mixed up disks
and sleeves. Nope! I then took the disk to the Sony Vaio. The
program program came right up with out asking for the key and
asked which applications I wanted to install. Put the disk back
into the Dell, again, requests the product key, and, again,
rejects it. The Dell has been given to my daughter and is to go
into her bedroom to use for homework. She needs the Microsoft
application to take files back and forth to school. Can anybody
help me?

Did I forget to mention that it is a legitmately purchased and
licensed software? And, that the Microsoft XP Pro is legitmately
activated and registered on both computers? My bad. Sorry.
Did the MS Office CD's come with the Sony PC, or did you purchase
them off the shelf? If they came with the Sony PC, then they are
what's called OEM software and they are only licensed to be used on
the Sony PC. If you want to install it on another PC then you'll
have to buy another copy from Microsoft.
Off the shelf. Student purchase from Ohio State U. MS XP Pro
installed on both computers, and registered on both computers. Just
can not install Word, Excel, Powerpoint to second computer. Keeps
asking for the key, but when type key in, it says it is the wrong
key. But the first computer has XP Pro and applications from same
disks, and same keys, installed. As a matter of fact, after
installing XP Pro, when I put the applications disk in the drive, it
didn't even ask for a key. Just asked me what applications I was
ready to install. No problems there.
The operating systems (XP Pro in your case) do not come into play. The
question revolves around the Office Suite.
Still need more information. Is this a Retail or OEM license of Microsoft
Office? From
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/FX101635841033.aspx :
Office Home and Student 2007 Retail License Terms allow for installation
on three devices. OEM License Terms limit the installation to the device
on which the software was pre-installed.
