reinstalling xp

Hello I recently upgraded my video card and soon after I found that many
games I would play would crash and end within an hour. At first I
thought it was my power so I upgraded that too. My pc just started to
act funny so I decided a clean start was in order. I tried to reinstall
xp, but to my dismay the process just kept going in a vicious cycle. My
computer would boot to the cd and it would copy everything then it would
restart. I'm not a computer expert, but I know something is wrong
because my computer kept crashing to the blue screen mid-way copying.
Before I would just pop the cd in and let it do its thing and xp would
install no problem. Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions?
Thanks
I have a gigabyte board running amd 4200, 2 gigs of ram, seagate hdd,
8800gt, and corsair's 500vx.
