Re: The current auto-update XP SP3 question

I installed SP 3 with no trouble at all. Almost a non-event. I also had no trouble with SP 2 and SP 1. No problem updating MS Office, either. Upgrading to IE 7 was a piece of cake.

There are many people in the Firefox newsgroups who moan and complain about how 'lousy' FF3 is. I upgraded FF2 to FF3 with no problem at all.

I'm nobody's idea of a computer genius. The keys to my success in all things computer related is that I keep my computer in good condition and I prepare carefully before installing software (and hardware).

I haven't let Windows install the current update (XP SP3) even though I have always let it do the updates.

Here's my fear: I have always been leery of the auto-updates (I think once it trashed a machine totally) and in looking here for another problem I seem to have stumbled about posts complaining about the current update.

Anyone have any serious and tangible insight to give on whether to allow the update or not?

Many thanks in advance.
