Ron,
By what I'm reading I don't even need it. Thanks for the good info. I only
use PC for browsing web & Email. PC has all other patches/hotfixes/updates
and doing okay. I did uncheck that box as mentioned in previous post so it
doesn't ask for User Name & Password, that was all I initially set out to
find out. Sorry if thread strayed to the NET Framework issue.
As for me this thread can be closed.

Bill,
Has this thread now changed to the NET Framework update problem? If so,
do you even need the update? Read this:
The Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 is the new managed code programming model
for Windows®. It combines the power of the .NET Framework version 2.0 with
new technologies for building applications that have visually compelling
user experiences, seamless communication across technology boundaries, and
the ability to support a wide range of business processes. These new
technologies are Windows Presentation Foundation, Windows Communication
Foundation, Windows Workflow Foundation, and Windows CardSpace. The .NET
Framework 3.0 is included as part of the Windows VistaT operating system;
you can install it or uninstall it using Windows Features Control Panel.
This redistributable package is for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

You do not have to format the drive to remove SP3 by the way.

Are you saying in essence, uninstall SP3, install NET Framework 3.0 then
reinstall SP3? Sure hate to reformat & lose info & all the hours a hard
drive reformat would entail. Got to be another way.

Hi Bill and Ron,
Same thing has happened to me. I created a Slip-Stream Windows XP
Home Edition Service Pack 3 Upgrade CD and install Windows XP Home
Edition Service Pack 3 on my Hard Drive partition. Every single Windows
Hotfix and Optional Software installs in Windows XP Home Edition Service
Pack 3, except for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0: x86.
So, it wasn't just me and not just you, Bill. But I have just
reformatted and reinstall Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 and in
the process of installing all the Hotfixes and .NET Framework versions,
before I wind up installing Service Pack 3, itself.

Got you Ron. Note, I'm not on that PC at moment but have been
installing all updates whether Critical or Optional plus it is XP SP3
too.
Problem, will not install .NET Framework 3.0: x86(KB928416).

Thanks, Bill
