Re: IE Internet Explorer opens multiple windows repeatedly

Hello. I honestly don't think it is a virus or a trojan. But I had
Symantec too and changed it to AVG. AVG did find stuff that Symantec
didn't find. In fact, I had people who repaired computers tell me that
ones brought in for repair most often had Norton running on those
computers. However, my problem with this opening windows stopped before
then. But if I was you, when your subscription to Symantec runs out, I'd
get AVG. Get the one with all the bells and whistles.
But as far as the windows opening, I think it was an application on my
computer that connected to the Internet and would just go weird. The
first time it happened, it was the application called Weatherbug. Once I
deleted it or removed it from my computer, it didn't happen again for
over a year or two.
This last time, it started when I was running another application
called Celtx, a screenwriting program. One window was connecting to
Celtx Help online and it seemed to hang up and not be getting anywhere
at all. I opened another window for a search on Google, and changed my
mind and tried closing it. That's when the windows started opening to
Google over and over. Slowly however. So two applications were trying to
reach the Internet at the same time and I closed one. So I never ever
did that again. And I haven't had a problem.
When I was researching this problem on the Internet, I saw that
Weatherbug earlier did have this problem and you could "download a fix"
from their site. This means to me that when this happens, it has
something to do with an application on your computer doing something
weird, to state it really "layman like". :O) In the first case with me
it was Weatherbug and in the second case it was something that went
wrong with Celtx software or website. With Weatherbug, I think I could
tell because the window for it would open briefly just before this
occurred.
Anyhow, try and determine what exactly you are doing when it starts
happening and if any windows for any program on your computer open or
anything. If you can get rid of the program, do so. If not, you could
just not do any actions that would create this situation.
Wow, when I say I'm "almost geeky" I mean it. I have no clue the bottom
line on this situation and if you can't figure it out, I'd call a
computer place and see if they can explain it without charging you. They
may say it's a virus but who knows. I don't think it is but then again,
I now have AVG which found one trojan on my computer that Symantec
didn't find. And I haven't had a problem since.
Good luck!
Mary
