Could there have possibly been a Power outage in your local area?
Try a System restore to before the problem started.
Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System restore.
And, if you are using Norton, disable it before doing a SR.

cause this to happen... 1 exception: the other day I came home for lunch, and
when I came back after work, my computer had been restarted... not like a
non-use lockout... restarted... as if my computer had installed something and
shutdown on it's own. Since then, my optical drives do not work. I have a DVD
burner (EMPREX DVD-RW 16x IDE) and a CD burner (LG HL-DT-ST-CD-RW GCE 8240B).
The drives show up in my device manager, but upon inserting any media, nothin
happens. At the least there should be a Windows dialog box asking me wat I
want to do with the media just inserted... no autorun for games...NOTHING!!!
What to do?
