Re: Continuous reboot on log in after SP3 install

Chris

It would be helpful to see a Stop Error Report.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure. Check for variants
of the Stop Error message.

An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select
option - Disable automatic restart on system failure.

Does the computer boot in safe mode?

Have you tried Last Known Good Configuration?

Hope this helps.

The "Steps to take before you install" the service pack doesn't help
me now. I have the support tel # but was hoping for a quicker
turnaround here.

Thanks anyway.

When SP3 appeared as an automatic update on my PC, I happily went
about loading it, having never had a problem with auto updates
before. I had no idea until reading the posts here that a service
pack was such a big deal and
a different animal entirely. Really wish there had been more of a
disclaimer
so I could have prepared better before installing.

My problem:

SP3 installed without any apparent problems and rebooted afterward.
Since the install, I can't get past the login screen. When I click
on my user name
(HP_Administrator), it says "loading personal settings" and I hear
the "shutdown chimes". My workspace screen shows briefly and then
the computer
reboots and returns once again to the login screen.

Any suggestions? I don't care about the service pack - I just want
my computer back!!
