Any other ideas? I downloaded Opera and everything worked fine... What
does
Opera do that IE doesn't?

Nope - nothing through IE / FireFox. If I download the file, it works.
If I
try to play it through the browser, silence... In the case of videos,
the
video plays, but no sound. In the case of WAV / MP3, the browser looks
like
it's playing something (the scroll thing moves) but no sound.

After installing one of the countless security updates in the last 2
weeks,
the sound disappeared on Internet Explorer and Firefox. Even the
click sound
when I hit the links doesn't make a sound.
My speakers are on, the volume is max,
I set the registry value for the mouse click on links.
I've updated the codecs
I've set the navigation start / navigation complete in the sounds and
audio
devices properties.
I've rolled back to my earliest restore point - seems to be after the
updates :(
Any ideas? Thanks...
Does any sound (like a Wave or MP3 file) play?
