Re: preventing search in Windows Explorer address bar

Yes, of course I pressed the enter key. But if I don't do it within a
couple of seconds it goes back to My Documents usually. Why? It happens
especially if I'm typing a longer path with multiple back slashes. This is
after I turned off the "search in address bar setting".

No sure what you mean by too long,
did you press the Enter key by any chance?

Actually, this kind of works. But if I take too long with my typing, it
reverts to a previous entry such as My Documents. Why does Windows
assume I don't know what I'm doing? I've been configuring computers
since MS DOS 4.

Open Internet Explorer and from the Menu Bar select 'Tools' and from the
displayed list select 'Internet Options'. Next click on the 'Advanced'
tab.
Scroll down the list of setting until you reach 'Search from the Address
bar'.
Now beneath the 'When searching' list, click on the
'Do not search from the Address bar' option.
Click on the 'Apply' button located in the bottom right.
Then click the 'OK' button to exit.
Close Internet Explorer.

Now the next time you use either Internet or Windows Explorer
and enter C:\Temp it should work.
Also if you enter some miss spelled text or a single letter
you will get a 'The page cannot be displayed' message.

If I have a Windows Explorer window open and just want to go to a
specific
directory, I'm used to just typing in the address bar, for example
"c:\temp". But when I do this, Windows is trying to guess what I'm
searching for. This always messes up what I'm typing. I type
"c:\temp",
then after a couple of seconds, the address bar shows "c:\" or "My
Documents". I don't want Windows to do this for me. I just want to
specify
a directory myself.

Thanks in advance,

Brian
