Yes, I uninstalled the mouse driver. Then again, even before I did this,
the dialogue box continued to freeze up on me.

Right now, I'm using a different mouse and find that the right button works.
This, even without having to select the primary and secondary buttons
mentioned earlier.

Without having to convey a negative opinion* on the scroll mouse that was
giving me nothing but trouble, I am getting a Microsoft corded mouse.

*Without trying to be corny, and due to legal reasons, if I were to convey
my honest opinion here in this forum, then Microsoft could well take
appropriate action against me. Instead, could well be sending them a hard
copy to this effect.

Did you reinstall your mouse driver?

You asked me to press the spacebar then enter key to select primary and
secondary buttons. Same thing happened when I tried this mothod.
Dialogue box froze (or hung) once more. Without going to details, my
computer 'went down' for the 3rd time. Following on. I had a harder job
this time getting it up and running via System Restore. This, I had much
trouble finding.

There is also, no feature called Scannow on my system. Still, although I
am disappointed with the advice given, it could have costed me a fair bit
getting my computer fixed.

On a final note Joe. If somebody is telling you that their system
'hangs' after trying the task above, you are not doing any favours
telling one to perform the same task again. Regardless whether or not,
it remains an alternate method.

Michael

Ps. No disrespect to you and Andrew. I have decided to give up on this
mouse together and opt of a Microsoft corded version. So no offence
caused on this issue alone.

Issue right now is, that I cannot get the right button to work.

Since my previous thread, I have inserted a fresh set of batteries.
Then, as I tried selecting in Control Panel, Mouse, then, 'Switch
Primary and Secondary Buttons,' I get 'What's this?' Following on, the
dialogue box froze up and had a job exiting (or coming out of the
feature.)

Is there anything else that I can try, or, does it mean having the
mouse
replaced? In particular, since choosing System Restore has failed to
rectify this issue.

Ps. For those working for Microsoft UK. I tried calling earlier about
the above, chose Support Option (5.) Get the voice activating saying
'Sorry the number hasn't been recognised.'

The "What's this?" comes from right-clicking the button, so try this
instead: Tab down to the 'Switch Primary and Secondary Buttons" option
and press the Spacebar to select, then Enter to set that option. But if
both buttons are tied to one button, this may not help. You might need
to remove the drivers or features for the mouse, then reinstall. Also
try the following:

Click Start, Run, type SFC /SCANNOW, click OK. If any files are damaged
or missing, they'll be replaced. You may need to reboot afterwards so
damaged files will be replaced.

Andrew E. missed the point that you couldn't right-click (since that
buttoin doesn't work), but there are other ways to open the device
Properties. A double-click should open the Properties, or pressing the
Enter key once the mouse is selected.
