Thanks for the info.

You're welcome...

I downloaded and installed Online Armor free personal firewall after
checking site reviews of firewalls. Comodo free came out pretty
good/better, but it won't even install on my box.

...it would be beneficial reading the articles. But if you have may I ask
your reasons for deciding on PFW? (It can't be outbound control, can it?).

I have used a router for about 4 years now to connect 2 machines to the 'net
I already had seconfigXP,but didn't have it in use, doh! I have now.

Did you implement countermeasures against DNSChanger as well?

Actually I did read most of what was said in the articles, and from that
am I lead to believe that windowsxp's own firewall is better than any
PFW. If so, I have wrongly assumed that a PFW was better, so that was my
reason for installing one.

Well, since you seem to understand the issue you can do something about it,
can't you?

mmm, implenting DNSChanger, I can't see in SeconfigXP where that would
be done.

You may have read 'most' of what was said in the articles but missed "Wanna
know details? Go ahead and ask :-)" at the conclusion of my post.
You mentioned: "I have used a router for about 4 years now...". I would
think that you have a User Guide for this router as well which should
describe various (possible) configuration implementations.
I assumed you'd know what I was talking about. Anyway, have a look at this:
"Implement countermeasures against DNSChanger".

HINT: These recommendations are related to router configurations.
Good luck :)
