XP won't boot with 1 Tb external WD HDD plugged in

Hi,
XP won't boot with 1 Tb external Western Digital HDD plugged in (USB).
Boot stops at the beginning of BIOS checkup.
[While unplugged, all is OK]
Any ideas ?
