XP now takes over 4 minutes to boot to desktop

I am running WindowsXP pro and upto sp2 my system used to boot/load to the desktop in under 1 minute 30 secs with 2Gb of ram and a 2.8gHz dual core cpu.
Now since I installed sp3, although the system is a bit quicker, ie programs load a bit quicker, explorer is a bit quicker etc, after a reboot, it takes over 4 minutes to load the desktop, and sometimes it does not load my network connections. This window is a blank, so I have to reboot yet again and waith another 4 minutes plus to see if it will load network connections 2nd time around.
Any suggestions as to what I can do to get back to a quick boot up time etc.
Should I uninstall sp3?
Thanks
