Joe Thanks for your replying, but my problem seems to with the Automatic
Updates. In the Control Panel I clicked on Security Center and the RUNDLL
error popped up again as shown below.
I went to the Administrative Tools area and clicked on services. Under the
'Automatic Update' heading, every time I try to set the startup type to
'automatic' and I click 'apply' it works, showing the service status as
'stopped'. When I cick 'start' another error message pops up saying;
"Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either becauseit is disabled or
because it has no enabled devices associated with it."
So I don't really know what to do. The red windows security alerts icon is
still in my tray and doesn't seem to be leavng. Please advise.

No, the error message doesn't read like that; there are at least four
syntactical errors. Please state the actual error message. Meanwhile,
try this:
