Unfortunately, the repair couldn't work, due to some foolish design.
I looked around and it appears that the ZF561407.cab (needed as part of the
repair process) file is NOT on the software cd.. and since it wasnt on my
computer or any other that I have, I turned to the net.
The only source I found for it (harrythompson.com) contained 'the file' that
my Norton said was full of very nasty things.
So, I won't be installing THAT.
Thanks for your advice, dude, but at the moment it looks like I'm outta
luck. It wants a file I can't give it.

I would try using the Repair function in the Control Panel/Programs and.
Features app. Rightclick Office or Word in the list and it should have an
option to repair it.

Recently, Microsoft Word has gotten into the nasty habit of delting files.
During an auto-save or a deliberate save, it will randomly fling error
messages at the user (something along the lines of being unable to locate
the
file or Hard Drive.. I'm not certain as I've been too busy being furious
at
the loss of work) and shut itself down.
The file I was working on vanishes, leaving only a tranparent Word file
for
1kb, with a partial filename headed by a ~$ and a matching TEMP file of
the
size of the file that just vanished.
Rebooting Word does not cause it to auto-recover and the TMP file cannot
be
opened by Word or Notepad. I simply get an 'Access Denied' message.
I don't know if this is a problem with the software, a bug or some problem
with the harddrive. Regardless I need a way to get the information out of
the
TMP files when it happens.
Has anyone had experience with this? Any advice?
