Re: Antivirus pop up

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

You need to understand that Virus and Malaware/Trojans are different types
of infections.
AntiVirus applications generally do not have a good record of detecting this
type of spyware, though they may deal effectively with viruses.
Your anti virus definitions are being updated, that is the notices you
receive.

Your PC is infected with malaware, for this you need separate applications,
the ones below are all free
MS Defender is free and has real time scanning, ie it runs in the background
like your AV app.
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
SpyBot is free - you have to explicitly run it to scan your PC
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
Adaware have a free version - once again you have to manually scan
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

You should download update & run all three
NB None of the above are a replacement for an anti virus application, eg as
supplied by Aliant

Thanks DL for your Input.
I do know what the virus scanner does and I have it set as you suggested

I also know that the popup blocker, form filler and privacy manager are
just
little extras they provide and all are working on my PC since I have them
turned ON

I would like to know why you say I do not have spyware/malware protection
by Aliant ? I pay the monthly charge for the product . It is turned on in
MY services . I receive notices of anti spyware updates during the day
and
I have my PC set for scheduled spyware scans . If Aliant does not have
this
software then I am paying monthly for a service I am not getting . Just
curious .

I will download the freeware just to be safe

| Let me spell it out, you have Anti Virus software supplied by Aliant you
| DONT have spyware / malaware protection software.
| The two are different, requiring different products to scan / protect /
| remove
|
| What is immaterial is the pop-up blocker,Form Filler & Privacy Manager
|
| a.. Powerful **virus scanner** scans all files, applications, diskettes
and
| CD-ROM's on your computer
| a.. "Always-on" protection that works in the background automatically
| **scanning for viruses**
| a.. Automatically updates with the latest virus information
