There are programs like Partition Magic that I've used to resize a drive. It seems to work. I would suggest backup of data first since nothing in life is perfect especially when messing around with partition info and boot info etc. I think however it will only work if the partitions are adjacent to each other. ie. if they were made logically C: D: E: and F:, then merging C: and F: would not be possible. But the program will tell you I'm sure. Be ready to move things around if you have to.
