Defragmenter Quits After A Few Secs

Hello,

I have XP Pro with SP3 In it, When I run defragmenter it starts analyzing
then starts defrag, gets to 3-15% then quits saying could not complete then
press for the following & says no erros csusing it or in the event viewer
also, i did a chkdsk /r /f & made sure no disk errors & all ran fine.
Someone told me about a program called Raxco perfectdisk 2008 i tried it &
says to defrag system files offline & i did it rebooted & during boot it
aborted with a error message saying failed to open volume using defrags
(32,536) etc. So I uninstalled it & tried using defrag gain & no dice. Is
it a SP3? glitch? before i try to uninstall sp3 i wanted to see if anyone
knows this issue
