Re: networking share / printer issues

My first guess would be that you have a firewall on the "A" machine that's causing the problem. Try turning off any firewall you have on "A" and see if that helps. If that doesn't help, there's a truly GREAT program called "Network Magic" that's always fixed any problems I've had. You can download a free trial version that's good for something like 30 days, install it on both machines, and get things working. After that you can decide whether you want to keep the program after the trial period. A good, safe place for downloads is DOWNLOAD.COM.
Good luck.

Hello tech gurus,

I'm having issues connecting to shares on my small 2 computer network.

This is my setup. One computer is running xp home and one is running
xp pro.

I realize I really should reformat with pro on the home machine, but
it'll be a big job so I'd like to get it working without doing this.

I have netbios and the wizard setup on both machines.
The odd thing is the home machine (A) can see the pro machine (B) and
access its shares.
However, B can see A and its computer name on the network. But when
clicking A to connect, it returns with "//A is not accessible. You may
not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the the
admin...Access is denied."

I seem to have limited control over the shares on the xp home
machine(A) since it is home edition. However, it seems everything is
setup so i should be able to share the printers and a folder. I've set
both a folder and printer, using properties->sharing, to share, on the
home machine but access is still denied when trying to access it from
the pro machine.

I'm guessing it is a permissions thing but I really don't know what
else to try. I read something about logging in as the same user on
both machines, should this really be necessary though? Isn't that idea
of sharing on a network, that different users share their files?

Any help at all is much appreciated!
