like a fool I moved the settings pointer to far to the right and have
garbled
up the screen on the monitor so I can't read it to reset the settings back
to
a larger resolution. As I can no longer read the screen how do I correct
this problem? Can I do it on the settings mode on start up? Don't really
know where to start.

When your machine is starting up...
right after the bios messages but just before Windows starts to load...
hit the F8 key. (You may press it several times if you wish)
Then select safe mode.
Once you get to safe mode,
you can move the slider back to where it originally was
