Re: Reinstallation erases all?

The startup floppy diskette should be able to start the Windows 2000 installation and most likely so too the Windows XP installation. This single floppy disk only has 3 files on it and is so easy to make and try, it only takes about 2 minutes to do, create the floppy diskette, set the computer to boot to the diskette and try to boot the computer with it and see what happens!

If what you say about your partitions is true then one of the options in this boot.ini file should boot the installations, try them all when the computer boots and see what happens, if you can boot one or both of the operating systems then we can take further easy measures to correct your problem.

Copy the stuff *between* the === lines and paste it to a notepad file on the floppy and name it boot.ini

That was the most important bit of information needed, why you kept this

layout of your hard disks and partitions, and tell us where the

We don't know how many hard disks and partitions you have, by default
Windows 2000 installs to the WINNT directory while Windows XP installs
to the Windows directory, the boot.ini file should reflect that,

How are you trying to copy the files? From which operating system

are


you trying to do this? Just navigate to the i386 directory on the
Windows XP cd and copy them to the floppy diskette.

NTDETECT.COM, extract them from the Windows XP cd. As
