Hi
I have a fair knowledge of PCs but no experience of these user groups so
please excuse any bad protocol in the message.
I have a similar question to the one asked here.
The “Personalized menus option (in XP Pro (media edition) not Office) is
checked but I still don’t get reduced menus in the Start Menu (Classic mode.)
I’m aware that some registry settings affect this but have tried various
combinations of Intellimenus and noinstrumentaion to no avail.
Are there any other entries that affect personalized menus or anything else
that could be changed/affected so as to stop them working. I’m one of these
few people that actually love having a reduced menu of what I use the most.
The background of what cause the problem is below.
WHAT I DID:
I upgraded my Desktop HD to a different size and make, and cloned my old one
to the new one.
WHAT WENT WRONG AFTER THIS PROCEDURE:
1) When I started XP with the cloned new drive, XP said new HD found
but it sorted that, itself.
2) ActiveSync didn't work. Uninstal/re-install sorted that
3) The Logoff/switch uses option was missing from the Start Menu.
I downloaded a .vbs Registry script to fix this and it did fix it, the
option is back.
Unfortunately the Start Menu Fix seems to have stopped the personalized
menus working (as in cut down the amount of programs you see, with the ones
you don’t use very often.)
(By the way I have always and still do use classic menus.)
After looking at MS site, I see there are several Registry entries and Group
policy settings that affect “Enable personalised menus” and what’s worse the
interact so as there could be hundreds of combinations that wont work to try
out.”
What are ALL the Registry entries that are used/needed to enable
“personalised menus?”
What they should be set to, to make it work. (and any I should delete.)
PLEASE DON’T TELL ME TO GO TO START MENU CUSTOMISE ENABLE PERSONALISED MENUS
CHECK BOX. I’VE TRIED THAT THE BOX IS THERE BUT IT HAS NO EFFECT.
I have spent several hours trying to fix this already, I’m not just asking
for help at the first hurdle. I’m guessing one of your coders/techs could
sort this in two minutes with their eyes closed ;-)
I’ve only every asked for your help twice in the last 10 years!
Ideally the best solution would be for you to email me a script that would
delete/add any/all entries that relate to “personalised menus” so as to
restore it to proper function of being enabled.
XP seems to work perfectly other than this.
Ps Why DID windows get upset by me changing the HD.? Only MS Apps seem to
have been affected by the HD upgrade.
I did the same thing on my laptop last year and it worked perfectly. (Laptop
XP pro, Desktop XP Media Centre Edition)
Thanks in anticipation for your help.
Mau Rai
