You can get Linux for free to start your computer.

Ubuntu 8.x is out and if you can find a want to download the ISO and burn it to a CD. It will let you run up off of the CD only and look at the hard drive. If nothing else prove the hardware workable.

Also nass says press F11 but my pc says press F12 for recovery. It should be on your screen. Or in your manual?
