Addenda to my original post! I was not able to resolve the problem,
and as I have a 2 year extended warranty from Fry's Electronics in
Burbank, Calif. I took the computer in for repair. A few days later,
they told me they submitted the computer to a diagnostic test which
told them that I needed a new motherboard, and that they ordered a
replacement motherboard. They may be right in their assessment, but
I do not understand why a new motherboard is needed if the computer
did boot up in the SAFE mode.
If they used a diagnostic program, it must have been a program that
boots up on its own without accessing Windows.
They did not tell me the name of the program when I asked them. Is
there anyone reading this who might have worked for Frys or other
computer retailers that have repair departments. What diagnostic
programs did you use?
I see Tufftest Pro advertised on the internet. Has anyone used this
program? Is it satisfactory?
All opinions, information, dissertations, etc. welcomed! And YES, I
shoudl have written down the original error message, word for word,
letter for letter, number for number, before I returned the computer
to Frys.
Best, Aaron

mode, when attempting to boot up I receive an error message:
"entry point not found. the procedure entry point GKT ??? could
not be found in the dynamic link library..kernel 32.dll"
Then the screen freezes and remains blank with a single small white
arrow.
Is there a way of remedying this situation without having to reformat
the hard drive, losing applications and data, & reinstalling the XP
system?
All opinions, info, suggestions, etc. welcomed.
