If you are at a work computer, regedit may be disabled by your

Do you see regedit.exe in C:\windows folder?
If you do Start -> run and type cmd <enter>
At the dos prompt type C:\windows\regedit.exe <enter>

Do you get any errors ?

And I would think even in the run command you would see a pop up if it
were administered out of the system. Usually permission issues you get
good (if thats a proper term) dialog boxes.
You got a point Gerry

Thanks guys for your help, I didn't find regedit anywhere on my home pc,
but.....
reading a later post I realised I could just copy it from the windows disk
to my c:\windows\system32 folder, and hey presto it works, goodness only
knows why it wasn't there before though, perhaps you know why?
Kind regards
Steve
