I just want to clarify with you before using that suggestion that I am on a
business network and I just realized I'm running Windows XP Pro if that makes
any difference. I also have to get permission to try that link but I'll let
you know as soon as I try it if this helped.
If you have to get permission to try that link, you may also have an IT department who have the responsibility for keeping your system functioning.
If you do, it's probably not really a good idea to attempt to repair this yourself, as this can render it impossible for them to figure out what really happened. It's worse if they find this out *after* they start working on it; their time as well as yours has been wasted, and this can annoy them.
Better to call those folks right away and have them just fix it so you can do the work you're supposed to. They may simply back up your data, re-image the system and restore your data.
